Dr. Moulika Bhattacharyya
Assistant Professor
Dr. Moulika Bhattacharyya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru. She earned her Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Madras and has over nine years of research experience spanning India, Canada, and Spain. Her expertise lies in organometallic, coordination, bioinorganic, and main-group chemistry, with a specialized focus on organoboron and metallaborane systems.
Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Bhattacharyya has contributed significantly to the field of inorganic and organometallic chemistry. During her doctoral research at IIT Madras, she developed novel metallaborane and metallaheteroborane clusters, expanding fundamental understanding of metal–boron interactions and their potential catalytic applications. Her postdoctoral work in Spain and Canada further advanced her research in optoelectronic materials, boron heterocycles, and small-molecule activation using metal complexes. These studies have resulted in 13 international peer-reviewed publications, including in high-impact journals such as JACS and Chemistry – A European Journal, and numerous presentations at international conferences. She has also received multiple awards, including the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Travel Award and a European Social Fund postdoctoral fellowship for scientific excellence.
Her current research bridges chemistry, biology, and environmental sustainability, focusing on designing functional ligands and metal complexes for biomedical and environmental applications. She is working on metallodrugs and metalloantibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance, as well as catalytic systems for CO₂ utilization, renewable energy conversion, and green chemical transformations. This multidisciplinary approach reflects her commitment to developing innovative, metal-based solutions for healthcare, sustainable energy, and environmentally responsible processes.
Driven by a passion for scientific communication and education, Dr. Bhattacharyya also brings experience in mentoring students, developing interdisciplinary curricula, and promoting cross-domain learning. Her vision is to use chemistry as a tool to solve real-world problems—improving health, advancing green technologies, and ensuring a sustainable future.
