Assistant Professor

Dr. Dinesh S. M. is an Assistant Professor of Genetics in the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru. He earned his Ph.D. in Human/Medical Genetics from the University of Mysore, where he carried out his doctoral research at the Department of Pediatrics, Cheluvamba Hospital, Mysore Medical College, and the Department of Pediatrics, J.S.S. Medical College Hospital, Mysore. He also holds an MBA (Marketing) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM) from Karnataka State Open University. Specializing in Human Genetics, Dr. Dinesh’s research focuses on genetics, genomics, and personalized medicine. His expertise spans genome-wide association studies, whole-genome sequencing for personalized genomics, and mapping gene–protein interaction networks in disease pathways. He has successfully completed two research grants and published several papers in peer-reviewed journals. With more than eight years of teaching experience, he has served in two medical colleges, imparting knowledge to students of MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Speech and Hearing, and Biomedical sciences. Dr. Dinesh is a member of several professional bodies, including the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), Indian Society of Human Genetics (ISHG), Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Society of Biological Scientists of India (SOBSI), and the Karnataka Chapter of Anatomists (KCA). He has presented his research internationally in the USA, Australia, and Singapore, supported by prestigious travel grants from DST, ICMR, and the American Society of Human Genetics.

Research Interests at DSU- DNA methylation studies on Stuttering/stammering, down syndrome with congenital heart defects, premature greying of hair, and other related topics.
