Overview:
The School of Basic and Applied Sciences (SBAS) of Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) offers M.Sc. in Biochemistry. This course offers a complete overview of the chemistry related to living things. A holistic program helps students to gain field specific knowledge and acquire skills leading to opportunities in industry, academia and research.
Eligibility M.Sc. Biochemistry:
B.Sc. with any of the following life science subjects such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Anatomy, Physiology, etc. Students having degree in Medical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences are also eligible to apply.
Program Included:
This program is a two-year, CBCS (choice based credit system) post graduate program with a diverse curriculum. It provides a strong foundation in chemistry and biomolecules which will help students to grasp the tenets of biochemistry with ease. It is inclusive of subjects like metabolism, human physiology, analytical techniques, enzymology, molecular biology, immunology, cancer biology, molecular physiology, protein chemistry, genetic engineering, bioinformatics and related laboratory practicals, helping students to understand biochemical reactions and processes in different organisms as well as apprehend life and disease at molecular level. Apart from courses, students will take up Project/Dissertation work in their final year which will expose them to research activities and develop their analytical thinking. Students are constantly encouraged to attend conferences, present posters, participate in various curricular and extracurricular (sports, cultural and social work) events etc.

Biochemistry is a multidisciplinary field providing ample opportunities in pharmaceutical, bioprocess, food and beverage, cosmetic industries etc. There is also a huge scope for jobs in hospitals, blood banks, public health laboratories etc. Students can also opt for a career in research and academia here in India or abroad. Biochemistry being one of the basic sciences, students have the advantage of choose from many research thrust areas like basic biochemistry, enzymology, cancer biology, protein chemistry, bio engineering, toxicology, glycobiology, structural biology, bioinformatics and many other areas.
