Talk on 'Economic Theory' by Professor Anurag Jalan
Professor Anurag Jalan, an alumnus of IIT-B, Bombay and IIM-Bangalore talks to students of the Executive MBA program on economic theory. Professor Jalan teaches economics and is passionate about monetary and fiscal policy issues and the application of economic theory to real workplace practice. Before teaching at Dayananda Sagar University, Prof. Jalan worked as Sr.Vice President in the digital communications industry prior to which he spent a decade and more in managing a family business.
The Executive MBA program at Dayananda Sagar University, Bangalore is a flexible management degree program for working professionals, conducted on week-ends. Prof. Nagaraj Subbarao conducted a workshop on ‘Demystifying Mentorship’ for doctors of the Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences on May 17, 2019. The workshop was extremely well attended and interactive.
Prof. Nagaraj traced the journey of mentorship from the Greek epic the ‘Odyssey’ to the present and his address was interspersed with various exercises delineating personality and behavioral patterns which play a significant role in the mentoring process. Mentoring is not an asymmetrical process but a two way relationship between a mentor and the protégé that calls for empathy and support.
The workshop concluded with a group decision making exercise called, the Alaskan Goldmine, which required for group members to make life changing high stakes decisions’. The group exercise was great fun and brought out very clearly the complexities of human behavior, attitudes, values and personality which have a great impact on mentoring.
