M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (Specialization in Big Data):

This program provides the breadth of domains covering advanced areas of computing and also gives an opportunity to specialize in the domain of Big Data.

"Big data" is high-volume, high velocity and high variety information assets that demand cost-effective, innovative forms of information processing for enhanced insight and decision making. The field of big data deals with the native data-capture technology and processes required for such high volume, ability to manage variable velocity within a dataset, and multiple forms, types and structures to manage variety of data.

The Opportunity:

The data is growing at an exponential pace. “Every two days now we create as much information as we did from the dawn of civilization up until 2003, which is about five exabytes of data”, says Eric Schmidt, the founder CEO of Google.

According to Gartner's Big Data survey, 64% of respondents have invested in big data or plan to do so this year and projects spends in big-data technology to almost double to $55 billion by 2016.

Gartner projected direct spending of over $40 billion on cloud computing last year and predicted that the spend will continue to grow over 30% in the coming years.
