Mr. Samson N
Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences
Samson N is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Dayananda Sagar University, where he teaches Biology for Engineers and Environmental Sciences to undergraduate engineering students. His academic background is in microbiology, with research interests spanning environmental microbiology, microbial enzymology, and microbial biotechnology.
He completed his M.Sc. in Microbiology with First Class Distinction from St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Bengaluru. His postgraduate dissertation focused on exploring the diversity of gut microbial endosymbionts in adult worker honey bees (Apis spp.), where he applied molecular and culture-based microbiological techniques to characterize microbial communities across multiple host species.
Samson has worked on multiple research projects involving microbial enzyme production, microbial diversity and applied microbiology. His recent research focuses on enhancing cellulase activity from actinomycetes isolated from the gut of Apis florea through media optimization. He has also worked on optimization of media parameters for thermophilic inulinase-producing bacteria and has hands-on experience with protein precipitation, purification techniques, microbial isolation, molecular identification, and enzyme characterization.
Prior to joining Dayananda Sagar University, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology at NMKRV College for Women, Bengaluru, where he taught courses including Fundamentals of Microbiology, Microbial Diversity, Microbial Enzymology, and Environmental Studies. He has also contributed to scientific communication as a scientific writer and social media manager for Dendrite Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., where he conducted literature reviews and developed science communication content focused on molecular agricultural technologies.
His research experience includes work at St. Joseph’s University on actinomycetes isolated from honey bee gut microbiomes and collaborative research at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, studying microbial diversity in honey bee digestive systems. He has also conducted earlier work on fungal laccase production and enzymatic activity related to polymer degradation.
Samson’s research interests include microbial ecology, enzyme biotechnology, actinomycetes biology, microbial biotransformation, nanobiotechnology, environmental microbiology, and the application of artificial intelligence and computational tools in microbiological and environmental research.
