Department of Pharmaceutics

Department of Pharmaceutics was established in the year 2007 to strengthen research and training in the area of various pharmaceutical operations. It is one the most versatile disciplines and stalwarts of pharmacy education which facilitates the students to excel in the domain of pharmaceutical product development, thereby delivering exemplary skills to the students along with fostering leadership skills.

The department strives to become a Centre of Excellence in Drug Development including smart novel drug carriers with an objective to develop low cost new drug delivery systems for improved therapeutic benefits.

The department focus on translational research in areas of cancer, alzheimer's, arthritis, tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, microbial infections and cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals in association with various universities and pharmaceutical industries.

The core team is involved in mentoring B.Pharm, M.Pharm and PhD Projects including practice schools in align with industrial requisite.

Core competency includes development of advanced nanoformulations such as nanoparticles, liposomes, nanosponges and nanoemulsions to treat unmet chronic illness.

Core Research Area:

1.Nanotechnology and Targeted drug delivery - Formulation development and characterization.

2.Small bio molecules and Lipid based polymeric drug delivery systems.

3.Transdermal drug delivery system.

Center for Excellence in Nanotechnology and Drug Delivery

Overview:

Center for excellence in Nanotechnology and Drug Delivery is a specialized research facility dedicated to advancing the field of nanotechnology in pharmaceutical sciences which is focused on examining, developing and studying the nano-based approaches to enhance drug delivery, improve drug efficacy and address the various challenges of pharmaceutical industry.

The center is involved in various cutting-edge research in nanotechnology to design novel drug delivery systems and nanomedicines including nanocarrier systems capable of delivering drugs to specific target sites in the body, thereby reducing side effects and increasing therapeutic efficacy. Nanotechnology can help overcome biological barriers and enable controlled release of drugs. This includes nanoparticles, liposomes, micelles, nanosuspensions, and other nano-based formulations to improve drug solubility, stability, and targeted delivery.

Activities:

Currently, the centre is working on site-specific strategies for various diseases which includes cancer-targeting, brain-targeting, HIV-targeting.

1.Formulation development: Developing and optimizing formulations of existing drugs using nano-based approaches to improve their bioavailability, efficacy, and patient compliance. Currently our formulation research encompasses optimization of formulations for delivery of drugs through various routes such as oral, transdermal, nasal and rectal.

2.Education and training: Providing training programs, hands-on experience, workshops, and courses to educate researchers, students, and professionals about pharmaceutical nanotechnology

3.Intellectual Property and technology transfer: Assisting researchers in protecting their intellectual property and facilitating the commercialization of innovative nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems.
