Assistant Professor
Dr. Bhavya J holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with a strong academic and research foundation in enzymology, and toxinology. She began her career as a lecturer, later expanding her expertise in the pharmaceutical industry as a Regulatory Affairs Officer, where she gained valuable experience in regulatory compliance and scientific documentation. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor, actively engaged in teaching, mentoring, and research. Dr. Bhavya J has authored 24 peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals, contributing significantly to the advancement of biochemistry and biomedical sciences.
Qualification: Ph.D.
Area of Expertise: Toxinology, Enzymology and phytochemistry
Research Interests at DSU: My research interest lies in the discovering and isolating natural or synthetic molecules capable of inhibiting snake venom-induced toxicity. I am particularly focused on understanding the biochemical and enzymatic mechanisms of venom components, such as metalloproteinases, phospholipases A₂, and serine proteases, which are responsible for local and systemic damage following envenomation. By integrating principles of toxicology, enzymology, and drug discovery, I aim to identify effective inhibitors that can serve as potential therapeutic agents to existing antivenoms. This work has the potential to contribute to improved treatment strategies for snakebite envenoming, especially in resource-limited settings where access to conventional antivenoms is often inadequate.
