The event was coordinated by Faculty Members Prof. Anurag Jalan, Dr. Amulya Panda, and Prof. Silky Sharma.

During the session, a fair amount of knowledge, experiences and practical examples were shared by the industry guest with management students.

Learnings from the session

The Theory of Constraints (TOC) posits that all systems, no matter their complexity, are governed by a handful of critical elements. Identifying and managing these constraints is pivotal for achieving rapid results and fostering harmony within the system. TOC emphasizes that every improvement presents an opportunity, but not all changes necessarily lead to improvement. It challenges conventional thinking by prioritizing the identification and exploitation of system constraints. TOC advocates for a systematic approach: first, identify the constraints; then, decide how to exploit them to optimize performance. Subsequently, all other activities must be subordinated to support these decisions, ensuring that the system operates in alignment with its constraints. Finally, elevating the system's constraints involves permanently enhancing their capacity or effectiveness to drive overall system improvement. In essence, TOC offers a structured methodology for enhancing system performance by focusing on and managing its critical constraints.

Towards the end, Q& A round was taken and queries of students and faculty members were addressed enthusiastically. The session was quite informative, interesting and was applauded by the audience members.

During their insightful addresses, the speakers shared real life stories, emphasizing that alcoholism is a chronic disease akin to diabetes, necessitating lifelong management. They advocated for the understanding that, while there might not be a cure, control and prevention are achievable.

The overarching message conveyed to the audience was the significance of prevention over cure. Saying no to the first sip of alcohol or the initial encounter with drugs, resisting peer pressure, and avoiding substance abuse were emphasized as crucial steps. The speakers stressed the potential harm to an individual's physical, mental health, and overall well-being, as well as the impact on one's responsibilities in daily life.

Drive Outcome

All the Post-Graduate and Under Graduate Students participating in this anti-drugs and anti-alcohol drive had an eye-opening experience. The real-life stories of the alcoholic people shared by the speakers underscored the gravity of addiction and its profound effects on individuals and society. Understanding alcoholism as a chronic condition, manageable but demanding lifelong commitment, reshaped my perception.

The emphasis on prevention resonated deeply. Saying no to that first drink or drug is not merely a slogan but a practical and powerful strategy. Peer pressure and societal norms were debunked as invalid reasons to succumb to substance abuse. It became evident that the pursuit of a healthier and more responsible life begins with individual choices.

This session instilled a profound realization that combating drug and alcohol abuse is a collective responsibility. It is not only about helping those in the clutches of addiction but also about fostering a culture that encourages responsible choices and supports individuals in maintaining a substance-free life. COPE – Antah Prerana

“Entrepreneurs see change as the norm and as healthy. Usually, they do not bring about the change themselves. But – and this defines entrepreneur and entrepreneurship – the entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity.”

― Peter F. Drucker, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

DSU launched its Centre of Proficiency Enhancement – Entrepreneurship on 13 th September 2023. The foundation of COPE, short for the Centre of Proficiency Enhancement in Entrepreneurship finds its inspiration in the Sanskrit word - Antah Prerna - which closely resembles the word “Entrepreneur” in both sound and spirit. Antah Prerna translates to Self-Motivated and serves as the guiding philosophy behind this initiative. In the realm of entrepreneurship, self-motivation is the cornerstone upon which successful ventures are built. It’s the unwavering belief in one’s vision, the tenacity to persist in the face of adversity, and the unshakable determination to turn ideas into reality. COPE recognizes that self-motivation is not just a personal attribute; it’s a skill that can be nurtured and cultivated. Entrepreneurial spirit, an embodiment of this self-motivation, forms the bedrock of COPE’s educational journey. It’s a mindset that encourages students to embrace uncertainty, view failure as a stepping stone, and see challenges as opportunities. This spirit empowers them to be proactive, innovative, and adaptable, skills that are as valuable within the business world as they are in life. In the educational journey of students, the infusion of self-motivation and entrepreneurial spirit elevates learning beyond the classroom. It encourages them to question, to experiment, and to envision possibilities beyond the conventional career paths. COPE fosters an environment where students not only acquire knowledge but also learn how to apply it in innovative and transformative ways. By instilling this entrepreneurial spirit, COPE equips students with the tools to navigate an ever-changing world. It empowers them to take ownership of their futures, to create opportunities where none exist, and to make a lasting impact on society. Whether students choose to embark on entrepreneurial ventures or pursue traditional careers, this spirit becomes an invaluable asset, driving them towards excellence.

This event was honoured by the presence of the chief guest Mr. Raghunath Kempanahally, CEO of ChipLogic. It was also attended by Dr. Steve McKenna, Associate Professor of Management at Curtin University, the Pro – Vice-chancellor of DSU – Mr.Janaradan and the dean of SCMS Capt. A. Nagaraj Subbarao Phd. English Language as a Skill!

People with more positive attitudes toward learning English make more of an effort and learn more than people with negative attitudes. However learning a new language can be challenging to most. At SCMS we have addressed this by having our students learn English using animation and gamification as an intervention.
In a first of its kind process the learning app will be proctored and give students an opportunity to learn by practice and play with a pedagogy that is both immersive and hugely entertaining.
While there are plenty of good language learning apps on the market, our own finding is that learners still benefit from having an effective teacher and a supportive learning community. Teachers help students set achievable goals and overcome barriers that inevitably arise along the way. Supportive classmates provide accountability and the friendly push that students need to keep up with their study plans. The learning cohort that will be formed will be a supportive one.

The meaning of the word Prayas in Sanskrit is to endeavor, to try and to succeed in the face of failure and difficulty.

This is the overarching ethos of our school. Our students are resilient, learn from failure and eventually triumph.

It enables them to be emotionally strong as sports lets them experience various emotions like success, failure, happiness, disappointment, etc.. Sports not only contributes to shaping their personality but also impacts their academic performance significantly. There have been many studies proving that students involved in sports during their college life perform better in academics. Reasons for this can be many, as sport imparts them with the skills of time management and also acts as a stress buster when they are loaded with too many assignments and deadlines. Students need a break from their daily routine to ensure that they have stable mental health. Sports activities are productive breaks that enhance students’ capacity to think, learn, focus, and contribute to academics.

Ethnic Day 2022

The number one reason students have for investing so much time and money into a college education is to get a good job, with two thirds of them seeing “financial stability” as the primary goal. Professors extensively use case studies, simulations, role play and presentations to embellish lectures. We have Prof. Ramesh Murthy and Prof. Chandan, professors of Supply Chain Management, conducting a simulation exercise for MBA students. The beer game is an exercise that demonstrates supply channel dynamics. Simulates material and information flow in a simplified beer production and distribution channel, focusing on the linkages among various stakeholders - a beer manufacturer, its distributors, a wholesaler, and a retailer. Students formed teams of four, each assigned to place orders and manage inventory for one firm in the channel. In this simplified channel, orders are the only information to flow among channel participants. The instructor can work with students to understand the nature of the problems they experience, identify the causes, and discuss possible remedies. Despite the simplicity of the simulation, most teams find it extremely difficult to keep inventory and stockout costs low.
