Dr. Arpi Dey

Assistant Professor

Dr. Arpi Dey is presently serving as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Basic and Applied Sciences. She is a passionate scientist with 8 years of experience in endocrinology and alternative medicine. She has a strong academic record with first class and extensive hands-on experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Phytochemistry, Mammalian cell- culture-based bioassays, Pre-clinical trials, Animal handling- rats and mice, Reproductive toxicology, Pharmacology, and Proteomics. She has pursued B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Chemistry and Botany from Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous), Bangalore; M.Sc. in Biotechnology from VIT University, Vellore and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat. The title of her Ph.D. thesis was "Potential of Non-Polar fraction of Aloe barbadensis Mill. Gel extract in management of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)". Her study was focused on isolating and characterizing bioactive molecules from Aloe vera gel and evaluating their potential for the treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome using “in-silico”, “in-vitro” and “in-vivo” techniques. Also, she identified and characterized the molecular targets for these bioactive molecules, thus, adding to their overall potential and economic viability as a drug at national and international level. Her study has led to a foundation for converting the isolated phytochemicals into drugs from “bench to clinic”. Her research work has been effectively translated into manuscripts and presented and appreciated at several international conferences around the globe. She has bagged several best paper presentation awards in international conferences. Her current area of research revolves around understanding the regulation and molecular basis of female reproductive health and its associated co-morbidities and their management using Nutraceuticals.
