School of Law

Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), a private university established in 2014, is home to a first of its kind innovation-centered law school in the heart of India’s Silicon City, Bengaluru. The University builds on the rich legacy of the Dayananda Sagar Institution (DSI) which was founded in the 1960s. DSI currently houses 18,000 students across several disciplines. ABOUT DSAT

DSAT stands for Dayananda Sagar Scholarship Admission Test, which is an entrance examination conducted by Dayananda Sagar University for admission to various programs such as B.Tech, M.Tech, B.A.LL.B., BBA. LL.B., and B.Pharm The test is designed to assess the knowledge and aptitude of the candidates in the relevant subject and is used to determine their eligibility for admissions. The scholarship test is based on multiple choice questions and the students who clear the threshold score are eligible for admission in University under scholarship quota.

Prof. (Dr.) Kiran Gardner stands as a leading authority in both legal and educational domains, distinguished by her dual Doctorates in Law and Education. With a career spanning nearly four decades. she has made significant contributions to legal academia and educational reform, establishing herself as a guiding force in these fields.

Dr. Gardner’s academic journey is marked by an impressive array of qualifications, including Ph.D. degrees in Law and Education, as well as advanced degrees in Criminal Law and Comparative Education. Her scholarly work has not only enriched legal education but also shaped the development of numerous legal institutes. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Gardner has held prestigious positions such as Dean at various esteemed universities, guided Ph.D. scholars in diverse areas of law, and published extensively in academic journals and edited volumes. Her initiatives have included establishing research centers, organizing conferences, and actively engaging in socio-legal research.

Dr. Bharathi S is a seasoned academic with 30 years of experience in legal education. She has held significant leadership roles, including Professor, Director, and Associate Dean at REVA University, Alliance University, and Christ University in Bangalore. Her career began with her role as an Assistant Professor at esteemed law colleges such as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Law College, Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya Law College, M.S. Ramaiah Law College, and University Law College. Prof. Bharathi’s extensive expertise and leadership have significantly shaped legal education and contributed to the development of numerous legal professionals throughout her distinguished career.

Prof. Visveswar Mavathur, currently a Professor of Practice, brings 33 years of experience in the technology industry, alongside over a year in university teaching. He has taught courses in Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Emerging Technologies, and Organizational Behavior. A seasoned veteran, Prof. Mavathur has held senior leadership roles for over 13 years in renowned organizations like HP, TCS, IBM, Cisco, and Capgemini, both in India and abroad, focusing on strategy, innovation, research, incubation, and marketing. His contributions to industry publications include notable platforms such as Communications Today, Cloud Computing Intelligence, 1to1 CRM, World Economic Forum portal, CHRO Forum India, and CFO India.

Dr. Prabhakar S

Dr. S. Prabakar is a passionate and dedicated teacher with two decades of experience in academia. He has been into teaching, research, and administration at graduate and postgraduate levels. Accounting and Human Resource are his prime areas of research. He has published more than 15 research papers both at National and International Journals. He has also chaired technical sessions in various national and international seminar and conferences. He has worked in various roles as Head of the Department for Commerce (B. Com, BBA & M. Com), IQAC Member and Convener of examination committee in various colleges. He is a certified internal auditor for ISO 2015 and 2018 by Bureau Veritas (BV). He has cleared all eligibility examination to add value to his teaching career. Eligibility examinations like UGC-NET, KSET and TNSET of Commerce and Management streams.

Prof. Shivani Dutta

Prof. Shivani Dutta is the founding faculty of the School of Law, DSU. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies from the elite National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. She pursued her BA.LL.B from M. S. Ramaiah College of Law, Bangalore and LL.M (Gold Medal) from National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA). She has over a decade of academic and research experience. Prior to her joining SOL, DSU, she worked with IFIM School of Law and Christ Academy Institute of Law, Bengaluru. She also worked as a guest faculty, NLUJAA and as a teaching assistant at NLSIU, Bangalore. She has participated in national/international seminars and conferences with multiple publications in the form of articles, book chapters to her name which are indexed in peer-reviewed journals and by Routledge. She is actively involved into the admissions outreach programs beyond regular academics and administration at SOL, DSU. She is currently the member of the Board of Studies, SOL and member of the Ethical Committee, School of Physiotherapy, DSU. She is the Convenor for the Legal Research Innovative Centre and the Co-ordinator for Academic Affairs and Legal Aid Clinic.

Dr. Gajendra N

Prof.(Dr.) Gajendra N has nineteen years of teaching and research experience working in premier educational institutions. He has an impressive portfolio of published books, edited book chapters and research papers in leading national and international journals. His significant contributions in research areas such as Economic Analysis of Solid Waste Management have been acknowledged by Public Authorities like BBMP.< br />Dr. Gajendra was awarded his Ph.D. in Economics from Tumkur University and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics from Bharthidasan University. He completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Christ Univeristy and Master of Arts (M.A) in Economics from Bangalore University. He has also qualified National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET) from University Grants Commission. At School of Law, DSU he heads the Mentorship Program. He is also the Co-convenor for the Centre of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainabilty and is the Sports Co-ordinator.

Prof. Cauvery M T

Prof. Cauvery MT is a highly qualified academic professional with an MA in English Literature, M.Ed, and NET qualification. With 9 years of diverse teaching experience, she has imparted knowledge across various courses including B.Ed, BPT, MLT, Nursing, and Law. From January 2014 to February 2017, she served as an English Lecturer at Dr. M.V. Shetty College, Mangalore, where she taught English Literature for B.Ed students and Communicative English for a range of programs including Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Medical Lab Technology, and Nursing. Cauvery holds a UGC NET qualification in Education with a commendable 63.46% and is certified by Toastmasters International. Additionally, she has participated in Speech Craft sessions focused on public speaking and communication skills at St. Agnes College, Mangalore.

Prof. Sanjay Utagi

Prof. Sanjay Utagi has completed his LL.B and LL.M in Corporate and Commercial Laws from KSLU’s Hubballi. He is enriched with an experiential learning of the procedural laws by working in the District Courts and High Court of Karnataka before stepping into academics. He started his academic career as a Researcher and Teaching Assistant from the elite National Law School of India University, Bangalore. He acquired an administrative opportunity to work as Principal (I/c) of SS Law College (Affiliated to KSLU), before joining School of Law, DSU.
Additionaly he held responsibility as editor of International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice (IJCLP) an Scopus Index journal, also has many published articles to his credit. He was invited to deliver special lectures on topics such as Consumer Law, Mediation, Insurance etc. Currently, he teaches Law of Insurance and Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing at School of Law, DSU. His doctoral studies is focused on Protection of Human Health and Environment from Pesticide Exposure. He is the Convenor for the Legal Aid Clinic and the Innovative Legal Research Centre.

Prof. Navaruna Borah

Prof. Navaruna Borah

Prof. Navaruna, a distinguished historian born in Guwahati, currently serves as an Assistant Professor (History) in the School of Law at Dayanand Sagar university. She is pursuing her Doctoral Degree at the prestigious School of Historical Studies at Madurai Kamaraj University, where she is conducting research on colonial India's prison culture.
Navaruna holds a dual master's degree in History and Women and Gender Studies and has presented her research at numerous conferences and published in several reputable journals. She is committed to contributing to society's growth and development and is associated with a prominent NGO in Bangalore that provides educational assistance to underprivileged children.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Navaruna is an accomplished professional dancer and a fitness enthusiast with a passion for healthy and balanced living. She is also an avid reader and writer with a particular interest in India's cultural history, food history, women's participation in the Indian freedom struggle, prison narratives, and women's empowerment.
Navaruna believes that studying history can enhance personal and civic growth and encourages young people to pursue the subject. Her diverse interests and remarkable achievements in scholarship, physical well-being, and social responsibility are a testament to her exceptional character and commitment to excellence. Beyond his academic contributions, he has authored 12 research papers in renowed journals and serves as the convenor of the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability. Dr. Moharaj also plays a pivotal role in the Debate and Literary Society Committee, fostering a vibrant community of discourse and critical thinking. He has 07 years of teaching experience in reputed institutions. Presently Mr. Bharath working as a Member of the Panel of Examiners of KLE Law College, Bengaluru and nominated as the Member, Board of Studies of NMKRV College for Women (Autonomous), Bangalore University in 2022. His areas of Interest include Public Administration, E-Governance, Indian Constitution, International Politics and Human Rights. Dr. Sheikh Inam Ul Mansoor

Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Inam Ul Mansoor is a highly accomplished academician. With a strong background in law and a passion for academia, Dr. Sheikh has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive research and publications. Pursued his BA. LLB (Hon’s) from University of Kashmir, LLM from JNU Jaipur, Certification from WIPO and Ph.D. International Trade Law from LPU Punjab. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Sheikh served as an Advocate and Solicitor at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and other subordinate courts in Jammu and Kashmir. This experience as a legal practitioner has provided him with valuable insights into the practical application of law and enhanced his understanding of legal dynamics. Dr. Mansoor is also a prolific author, with numerous publications to his credit, including books like “Law related to Negotiable Instruments in India: Practical Overview”, “The WTO and Developing Countries: A Quest for Fairness” and “International Trade Law: Principles, Practices, and Policies” He has published 22 research articles on a variety of legal topics in reputed journals and law reviews. As an Assistant Professor in Law at Dayananda Sagar University, Dr. Sheikh Inam Ul Mansoor continues to make significant contributions to the legal field through his research, teaching, and involvement in various professional activities. He is currently Co-orrdinator of Moot Court Society, Coordinator Library and Coordinator Centre for Advanced Study and Research in Intellectual Property Rights (CASRIPR).

Shantanu Pachahara is versatile legal professional having 7 years of teaching and research experience. He has worked in various leading University of India including Manipal University Jaipur, Rashtriya Raksha University, Gujarat and NMIMS Deemed-to-be University, Bengaluru. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree from Gujarat national Law University in the area of international commercial arbitration. Prof. Shantanu has multiple research publications to his name in reputed indexed journals and his area of research includes international arbitration, mediation, conflict management, and law of crimes. His legal philosophical bent is that laws are transient to the will of the prevailing society with no caveat of permanency to ameliorate the social and economic transactions. He is the coordinator for Dayananda Sagar Centre for Dispute Resolution along with the Internship and Placement Cell.

Prof. Sakshi Mehta

Prof. Sakshi Mehta completed her BBA LL.B. (Hons.) with a specialization in Corporate Laws and her LLM with a specialization in Law & Technology from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in law from ICFAI University, Dehradun. She holds 2.5 years of corporate experience with an expertise in Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) Technology. With a fervent passion for legal knowledge, she is dedicated to exploring the intricate intersections of various areas of law, emerging technologies and sustainability. She is driven to merge the practical insights from corporate experience with scholarly research, aiming to shape the future landscape of legal practice and academia. She is the Coordinator for Cultural Committee and the Convenor for the Gender Studies and Inclusivity Centre, Cyber Legal Excellence.

Prof. Arifa Sultana Choudhury

Prof. Arifa Sultana Choudhury

Prof. Arifa Sultana Choudhury is a dedicated legal educator currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Dayananda Sagar University, Bengaluru. With a rich blend of academic and practical experience, she holds litigation as well as academic experience. Her areas of academic interest are diverse, including criminal law, law relating to women and children, and customary laws. Arifa completed her B.A. LL. B (Hons.) from National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, in 2016, where she secured 4th rank overall and was awarded multiple Gold Medals for academic excellence in various law papers. She further pursued her LL.M. with a specialization in Criminal Law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. During her academic journey, Arifa actively participated in editorial and organizational roles, including serving on the editorial board of the National Law University Assam Law Review (NUALR) and convening the North-East India Rounds of the Surana and Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition in 2013 and 2014. Her contributions extend beyond teaching; she has several publications in UGC-recognized national journals and has presented papers at both international and national conferences. She is the Convenor for Centre for Advanced Criminal Law and Environmental Criminology and Centre for Corporate and Commercial Law.

Prof. Nithin Rajeev

Prof. Nithin Rajeev

Prof. Nithin Rajeev is a specialist in intellectual property and trade law, with a strong academic background from Christ University, Bangalore, and has qualified UGC-Net. He earned his B.Com. LL.B. degree from Kerala Law Academy, Trivandrum and LLM in intellectual property and trade law from School of Law, Christ University’. Prior to joining the School of Law at Dayananda Sagar University, he served as an Assistant Professor at IFIM School of Law and ISBR Law College, Bangalore, where he held leadership roles, including Faculty Chair of the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights and Co-chair of the Centre for ADR. He also has corporate experience as a Contract Specialist with Futran Tech Solutions, Hyderabad. His professional journey is complemented by extensive internships, including work with the Kerala Additional Advocate General, Human Rights Commission, and various law firms. An active participant in moot courts and research, Mr. Rajeev is deeply committed to exploring Intellectual Property Law, Constitutional Law, ADR, and human rights, and he enjoys writing, reading, and public speaking. He is the Convenor for Centre on Corporate and Commercial Laws and Moot Court Society.

Prof. Stency Mariya Mark

Prof. Stency Mariya Mark is an assistant professor of law and has two years of prior experience. Her areas of interest include constitutional law, administrative law, information technology, and jurisprudence. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) in Nagpur; she holds an LL.M. in Constitutional Law from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, and graduated from Galgotias University, Greater Noida. She has published a book on "Sexual Minorities through the Lens of Modern Panopticism" and contributed chapters and research papers to various legal publications, including scopus-indexed journals. She is the Convenor for Centre for Advanced Criminal Law and Environmental Criminology and the Internship and Placement Cell.
